He was breaking bread and giving thanks, with crosses made of pipes and planks leaned up against the nitrous tanks

Road blog - Calgary, Day 150:

I am happy to report that today is a remarkably good day on the road so far
We finished our show yesterday, nothing interesting to tell there. Seriously. Nothing at all.
This was a laptop-based show (as opposed to the normal wireless keypads) and both my machines were in use on the floor or for the show so I was stuck sitting at the tech table with nothing to do for 98% of the time but listen to presentations on petroleum safety. Boring, but over. It feels like we've been here for nothing less than 10 days.

Had a nice night out in Calgary, got a steak and a couple drinks with the boss and we were both drained by 9pm, I think from the overwhelming boredom of the day. But our flight home isn't until noon-ish today so, for the first time in memory, I got to just sleep. Sleep with no concerns about oversleeping or a wakeup call that might not come, or somewhere to be or anyone to wake up for. It was weird. Almost scary.

So today I got up at my leisure, which wasn't too much later than sunrise anyway, but still.
We had a kick ass breakfast at a little diner around the corner and we're just wrapping things up to head to the airport and back through the immigration-machine. It's nice to end work travel on a mellow note, even though I'd rather be home with my family, instead of packing everything up and hoping you don't forget anything before hauling ass to the aiport and hoping you make it.

That's today - no rush, no stress and no flight until this afternoon.
It's telling that I don't really know what to do with the free time. I can't wait to get back to the states, where everyone around me isn't speaking in a Northern Territory accent (which is exactly the accent people put on as a fake-uber-Minnesotan, making it difficult not to chuckle at everyone around me) and I can get back to my normal state of over-connectedness, hug my kids and even get back to acting like an idiot clown this weekend.
