This week's blog -
I've come to accept that I'm no longer blogging daily, about 6 months after any of my readers figured it out. Either I'm getting ready to leave and don't want to, I'm in some far-away city and don't want to be (and I'm sure everyone is sick of "this is where I am, I didn't see any of it" blogs) or I'm home and don't want to do anything but lay on the couch with my kids close by and do very little - which doesn't make for riveting narrative.
This past week had me in Atlanta doing a carbon copy of the Anaheim show with a different partner. I like Atlanta, let's just get that out of the way, and it helps when it's 72 degrees and sunny when we arrived with a couple hours to kill in Olympic Park, the Coke Store and generally soaking in all the sun we could before strapping ourselves into our chairs in a dark room for the duration.
The show was the show, the upside of doing duplicate shows is that it's mostly figured out so there are fewer curveballs and you might even get out at a reasonable hour each night. The downside is nothing new and the act of sitting and not thinking for 3 days can be painful at times.
We did get out and even made it to Vortex for awesome food and drink before hiking over to the Clermont (Blondie had the night off but her replacement did the job just fine) and then the walk all the way back downtown - a few miles all told and enough to make it feel like we weren't just stuck in an anonymous location eating hotel food and sucking down alcohol in an effort to make a hotel seem fun.
It was actually a nice trip.
Wednesday we wrapped up, loaded our equipment faster than anyone would think was feasible, changed and made it out the door to the Basement Theater for a quick workshop (that Chris, my co-worker, had to sit through and probably wonder what the hell was wrong with all of us) and then a short show with J* and myself doing a very LadyHawke-heavy longform set that answered the age-old question of "things that cannot be fixed with spumoni"
Up late and up early and back on a plane. Reported to the office on Friday and I'm still scheduled to be home for a good deal (if not all) of April - which is a welcome break. Starting to feel like a human again just thinking about it.
Looking ahead, May sounds fun as the 2 big shows I have coming up are both charity Silent Auctions, one features Paul Simon playing live and the other is hosted by Jon Stewart. Yeah, sometimes my job can be pretty incredible. Most times it's pretty dull. This last one was thankfully on the awesome side of the spectrum.
Back to building dressers for the twins, who will be getting their own rooms very soon.
I'm performing a crapload in April, check the list on the right side of the blog for the different shows, groups and whatnot.
This is the good kind of busy.
