day off blog -
the kids are off school the remainder of the week and I've been on the road an insane amount so a little stay-cation* was in order to catch up on simple family time. Things didn't exactly work out as planned as little Aidan came down with a 102+ fever yesterday afternoon and has been just the most pitiful thing ever since.
Time spent at home is always relaxing in theory but usually ends up being spent on the big list of crap I can't do when I'm on the road - which I find strangely satisfying but the wife and kids that would like me to park in front of the gameshow network with them for some stationary no-brainer time probably find it frustrating.
Speaking of frustrating...
The teenager got a job, this is good. As promised we've matched his small move toward responsibility by giving him use of our car (we had to pick up another used car since we don't exactly have 'extra' cars so this was no small thing) and he's consistently used it to skip out of school every day since.
Plus he is back to driving his friends home after school, nevermind that he has to work at 4pm and doing so gets him to the house at right around 4:05 to grab his uniform and head to work. Sure his work is right down the street but I don't think he can make the trip in -7 minutes so he seems determined not only to misuse the car he gained access to but to lose the job that got him driving in the first place.
There is no deal too simple for him to screw him, even when he likes the deal he's getting. Ah, the teenager.
The little guys (sick kiddo be damned) are having their favorite sitter over to play tonight and the lovely wife and I are getting out for just long enough to see RocknRolla.
things are looking up as winter rolls in and the job actually has me in my home state for all but 3 days in November (so far) and our industry tends to soften up a bit as the end of year approaches. I hope to be used to being at home again soon and able to sit still for some it.
for now I'm off to play Scrabble with the sick kiddo
* officially the last time I will use that word.
