If you hook up the speakers, We'll bring the sound - and the music will be heard for miles and miles around

Anniversary of a show blog - 8 years

Last night was the 8th anniversary of one of my favorite things in the world - the Improv A Go Go
In the past we've tried to make the anniversary show a bigger deal or do something heavy-handed to thank everyone we possibly could but this year it just felt like the IAGG with a ton of extra energy and in some ways I like that so much more.
It seems like the only things I ever wish for with the show is that somehow we could do more - get more groups on stage, let more people into the theater. Sadly we are limited by time, the laws of physics and the fire codes. Sometimes we bend those limits a little.

It's difficult to narrow down the list of things I love about the show since the whole thing has taken on its own personality and the whole evening is just its own brand of fun, crazy, weird, loose madness. And I love it. From the time you walk in to someone from Five Man Job to greet you (and probably swear at you or say something that would make most customer service professionals cringe) to the vibe in the room when pack the place with people we see every week and people we've never seen before and everyone is excited to see what the hell is going to happen because they know it's going to be crazy awesome - the whole night always has that familiar feel and it's unlike any other.

It's just fun. It's punk-rock theater. It's rough around the edges. It's cheap. It's some of the best entertainment by some of the most talented people you're going to find anywhere. It feels like we got the keys to the amusement park and a shitload of our friends showed up. It's all about fun and nothing could possibly go wrong. It's our show. I love it.

Of course I have people that I owe thanks to - people that the show wouldn't be the same without
I have thanked them over and over and my thanks always feel small compared to how awesome this thing is.
They're there every week, some are almost never there and are still no less a part of the show being what it is today.

Everything we do is built on this weird foundation and being part of it reminds me what we're building and why.
Thank you all.

Thanks to you, too, Butch - you've been a cornerstone in creating something that is absolutely unique and incredibly addictive. As someone new on the scene and old enough to know better, I can tell you that energy is exactly what I need to get through the week. Thank you thank you thank you for all of your hard work in creating something that makes lives better.

To be fair, I never get tired of the big gushing thanks, and rounds of thunderous applause.
