The drinks, they never seem to cost money. Saturday night was a runway that extended into Sunday. Sometimes Monday

On the road blog: Philly. Again.

What the hell?! this is starting to get weird.
I spent pretty much all of last week as far as I can tell in Philly on show, flew home just in time for Ka-Baam!!, the wife and I tagged out and she flew to Vegas and Sunday she returned home and I'm back here. What a great way to make everything blur together.

The boys and I had a nice weekend at home together sans Mom, which means things run less on schedule and the food is less nutritious and if it went on too long we'd all be running around in loincloths. Thank goodness Mom returned.
Having 4 solid days of little guys was great, I don't get that too often, even though it makes leaving again tougher. When I tucked the boys in Sunday night and told them I'd be gone before they woke up they both counted up how many days until we saw each other again. That's tough.

Woke up at 4am to catch the earliest of early flights here in order to make a noon meeting....that didn't happen. The meeting didn't happen, that is, I was here and ready and as perky as ever. Ah, the job.

The upside to being here so much is I've finally gotten my bearings a bit and can venture out and last night I found a little steak and sushi joint where I was able to get a giant plate of great sushi and a couple drinks and still stay under my per diem - unheard of.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Not too much of substance these days, I've been going nuts on the Twitter to get the random thoughts out and trying not to turn this blog into Butch's To-Do List (because there's a lot to do) but things on the Actual Theater Project are actually going frighteningly well. I'll dedicate a post to all that very soon.

Ka-Baam!! did "end" and it was an awesome show.
I don't doubt that it will be back sometime soon but Fox and Universal are both claiming they've owned the rights to produce the story for years now....Yeah, nerd out.

One last thing -
It was actually the day I rolled in to Philly the first time I got a phone call from a friend I hadn't heard from in a long time, followed by a text from another, when I figured out someone was dead. I have a horribly accurate intuition for getting that phone call. Not a fun super power. Anyway.

Honestly, my first reaction was total shock that Rick was even still alive but it still sucks. Even if everyone in the world could see his death coming for years it still manages to be shocking when it finally happens. Or maybe it was the lack of innocent bystanders killed that was really weird. If you knew Rick, you know what I mean.

ANyway, he was a pure villain to the core. And a great guy sometimes.
I'll never forget one of the first times we ever spoke, which should give everyone else a nice little snapshot of the man....I was strolling up to my friend's apartment and there was Rick and another guy filling the trunk of their car with guns. Lots of guns. Rick looks up and sees me and as casual as could be says, "We're going to go shoot up a crack house, you wanna come with?"
As if he was asking if I wanted to grab a cup of coffee. I declined. He went. I don't have any doubts that he went off and did terrible things but that somehow didn't matter.

Anyway. He was a lot of things and I always called him a friend. It was safer than calling him anything else.

“There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” - HST

Even though I only met Rick a few times, I think that may be the best and most honest eulogy he will get. I shudder to think what a priest will try and say about him.
