Tuesday blog -
Many things happened yesterday, the boys started camp (a total success in that they came home saying they had great fun but we're so tired they were a wreck the rest of the night - too much fun), we got to see Fly Me To The Moon, the new 3D animated movie coming out in August (which could hardly be a worse movie, I don't get into movie reviews on the blog much but the BEST thing you could say about this film is that it's so terribly disjointed and poorly acted and animated I would have mistaken it for an MCAD senior project....and then failed that senior on inability to make a film) but the big deal yesterday was by far the fact that I finally got the object of my long-time technolust - my iPhone.
People that don't get all jazzed about gadgets can just tune out now - this isn't a technology review either, just a gleeful little nerd-gasm. And no, thanks to Google's upcoming release of a phone of their own, I'm not typing this on my phone as the Google apps for the iPhone are noticeably weak.
I put my money down over a week ago, got the email that my phone had shipped and then spent the last couple of days dilligently clicking 'refresh' on the FedEx site until I was sure it had arrived in the AT&T store and dragged the family, exhausted kids and all (Owen slept on the counter through the entire process) to go get nailed with early-termination fees from TMobile and activate my cool new toy, which I have assured my wife will solve all our problems and guarantee that I will never be late or forget anything ever again.
You don't have to get all into the whole Apple - we're-going-to-integrate-everything-in-your-life culture, like my wife doesn't to appreciate that this groovy little device puts a big old geeky grin on my face.
Even the usually tedious process of moving address book contacts over was Apple-fied enough to make it un-painful (I don't know that it could ever be called 'fun') and now I have to undo the fact that I've spent the last several months encouraging everyone to send everything to my work phone and start enjoying my now fully-connected and shiny new set of features.
the learning curve on the finger-typing should make a nice buffer for the people that I communicate with regularly before my conversion to a full-on cyborg becomes apparent.
So that's that.
Dorky? Probably
Fun? Totally
I know what I'm going to be doing all day until the giggles wear off....
