Road blog: Minnetonka - day 2
Yesterday was spent in final prep for the show that begins early this morning and runs into Thursday - I like having a local show as opposed to traveling away from family to work. We loaded the equipment in, tested everything and then ran through everything with clients to pat them on the heads and reassure them everything was going to be fine, this gig is actually a pretty complex show to run but it's still 95% hand-holding.
After a day spent setting up powerpoint for Uterine Health Professionals I was super ready for a punk show, George and I drove out to the punk-rock Mecca of Maplewood for the Rancid concert last night and even though I feel like I was hit by a truck I am happy the show was great.
the Teenager was also present, he rode with his friends to the show and we saw him several times over the course of the night, on the main floor in the pit, and I think it might have shifted some paradigms for him after seeing his dad hold his own and give some back. I think knowing your dad can take a hit has got to be pretty different than seeing your dad take many of them.
We shoved the boy around a bit, messed with him in the pit when we could. Ah, bonding over punk shows.
Came home after dropping the Teenager's friends off (who also may have been a little freaked out, nobody spoke a word the whole way) and got 3 short hours of intense, death-like sleep before my alarm went off and it was time to climb back into a suit with my bruises and head over to the gig for an early call time to kick this thing off.
I'm not really coherent enough to write a good blog so trying to orchestrate a show with many moving parts should be super interesting.
