My kids will not experience that idea because there are just cartoons all the time now, and I don't mean the cartoons themselves, I mean the the whole experience itself.
If I flipped on the TV right now I could see some cartoons that just happened to be on Saturday morning but those of you of my age cohort know what I'm talking about, I hope. It's just not the same. Saturday mornings were an event because there was something different and crazy you didn't get to see the rest of the week, and I don't even want to consider what you'd have to do in this modern world to come up with that since I can see just about anything I want right now, instead I'm typing a blog wishing there was something worth seeing, something that would stand out would make kids race through breakfast in anticipation.
But nothing has taken its place, something you can only do on Saturday mornings as a kid, something that would get you out of bed and really kick off a couple of days of nothing to do but have some fun. That's what I'm missing. That used to be the starting gun for the weekend.
Mom was nice enough to let me sleep in this morning, which almost never happens, I never ask to sleep in on the weekends (neither does she) and as long as I can remember our house just gets up early every day, weekdays or weekends all start the same. Mom just decided out of the blue to let me catch some extra time asleep and this is what happened, it reminded me of what it feels like when Saturdays were something different from the Week and the Weekend started off right. All about relaxing.
I sat down to blog about last night's show but I'm going to sip some coffee and hang out with the boys. Happy weekend.
