I have been blogging less because of other factors, not least of which is that writing on Blogger suddenly makes me feel like I should be writing something of substance every time I forge an entry instead of just mindless crap that is fit for Myspace.
this of course, is all in my head. it is strange not having a readily-accessible stat counter, can't tell if anyone is out there reading this and I might be typing into a vacuum.*
in any case, feel free to comment.
saw Mike Doughty on Sunday and I have to say it made up a lot of ground where the underwhelming new album left me wanting. Sure the guy is true to style to the point of ruthlessly recylcing material and I did think the sheer abundance of nonsense words on the new CD seemed lazy until I heard him do "Soft Serve", which I love unreservedly, and realized the entire last minute of the song is gibberish. not only that it's repeating gibberish.
Anyway, he totally won me back over. the guy puts on a hell of a fun show and I can now hear the new songs through some rose-tinted headphones because of it and be happier.
two things that make me feel super old in combination with one another:
I have a LOT of grey hair, which I got a good look at today when I got a lap full of it while getting a haircut (along with a lot of bright red so....meh) AND I now have glasses for reading/working on the computer.
I haven't started actually wearing them just for reading because I don't need them enough to warrant carrying them around but I wear them in front of the screen and already I can feel a lessening of the jaw-grinding headaches and twitching, tired eyes the eye doc told me 5 years ago I need glasses to prevent. Thankfully my eyes haven't worsened more than they'd expect them to over time so my years of squinting haven't ruined my eyes.
still, between the grey hair and the glasses for reading I feel like I should get a robe, a Basset Hound, a pipe and some slippers and retire with a glass of scotch.
one thing that bums me out all by itself is the fact that I have to get in a cab at 4:45 in the morning to leave for my next work trip. Heading down to Texas on a gig and I'm actually joining another tech on the show that's been there since today so I'm looking forward to it.
Filling the dead hours on the road is always the painful downside to the work travel for me, so having someone to hang out with makes it seem vacation-y.
more words and pics from the road.
